Today I tested my boots on a wet slippery rock hike. I had done this hike before with different boots and had to be super careful. This time I got a bit cocky since the tread was so much better causing two minor slips but what an incredible difference. I passed many people having a tough time and told them all to get VJ boots. I am really happy with these boots and hope VJ makes some insulated boots soon.
I just completed a Spartan Ultra in my VJ Ultra 2s. It was between them and Inov8 Trailfly 300s. While I liked the Inov8s, the Ultra 2s offered that quintessential VJ grip, giving me all the confidence for those technical trails and tricky descents.
I love the MAXxs, but wanted some more cushion. 32 miles later, my feet were still in great shape.
I own all of the different styles of VJs but the MaXX is my go to shoe! I wear them for all my training runs. I wear them for all my trail races. I wear them for most of my OCR races. I love the fit. I love the grip. I love the rock plate.
The VJ Ultra 2's were exceptional! I did my first Ultra Spartan Race on 9/15 and I was able to come in 1st place - and I give SO much credit to these shoes. I trained for 6 months in the same pair, never had to break them in, just ran and felt amazing! I ordered another pair, a week before my race, ran in them ONE TIME before my ultra and... believe it or not... I came in 1st place in my age group! The grip is unlike any other shoe we have tested, the comfort is next level and simply a game changer. If you aren't running in VJ Ultras... what are you even doing? Lol
