Mike Ferguson

Welcome to the VJ Team - Mike Ferguson !

My background:
Started running in high school and joined the track team to meet a girl. After the first year I found out that I really loved it and happened to be good at it. My coach asked me to come back the next year and I ended up making state finals as a 4x8 meter relay member as well as running the open 800m.

Fast forward 5 or 6 years and I decided to start running and training again to do a marathon. I did not know what I was doing and just purely running as I ended up overtraining and had to pull out of the marathon. To this day I've yet to complete a road Marathon so it's on my list of things to do someday. Fast forward another 4 years where I ran into my now-wife who was doing these mud runs with her girlfriends and invited me to come out and check it out. I quickly discovered that they were much more challenging than just running so the following year I decided to start entering the elite and competitive waves. I did okay but made a goal the following year to start training for them and the following year I ended up winning every single OCR event that took place in Minnesota which was about 6 or 8 total that year.

In 2015 I first discovered Spartan Race when it came to Minnesota and took 6th or 7th  place and decided this is the sport that I want to start training for to see how good I can become. The following year in 2016 I am proud to say I won the Minnesota Sprint and went on to make another 5 or 6 podiums that year in Spartan Race. The following year is when I first decided to pursue the u.s. national championship Spartan series. I've always wanted to run against people that were better than me and competing in this national championship series was the perfect avenue for that. I've always said this that I want to challenge myself to see how good I can become before I'm past my prime. I would hate to look back in 20 years and wish that I would have.

I've always said this that I want to challenge myself to see how good I can become before I'm past my prime.
